Our summer holiday this year was in Dumfries and Galloway, in the south-west corner of Scotland. We booked it before the pandemic took hold, and it turned out to be one of the best places we could have chosen in the circumstances. It’s often referred to as Scotland’s ‘best-kept secret’, as so many tourists head further north to the highlands and islands on their summer holidays. Happily for us, it was relatively quiet, and it’s also a really beautiful area with so many nice places to go for walks. I took these photos on the beach at Sandyhills. The weather was changing by the minute, and we had to shelter under a tree for a few minutes while a rain cloud passed over. The English Lake District was just visible over the other side of the water.
