Threave Garden & Estate is managed by the National Trust for Scotland. It features a large 19th-century house, gardens which are maintained by horticultural students, and a nature reserve which features an osprey nest and a ruined castle. We didn’t see any ospreys, but it was a nice walk nonetheless. The gardens themselves are next to a large wooded area, in which there’s a hide for watching red squirrels and birds. We saw 2 red squirrels here; the only ones we saw all week. They’re shy and elusive, but apparently much easier to see when lured with peanuts.
